Cookie and Browser Storage Policy

1. Introduction

This Cookie and Browser Storage Policy explains how LMTS QA Consulting ("LMTS", "we", "us" or "our") uses cookies, browser local storage and similar technologies through the LMTS QA Consulting website and web application.

These technologies help us:

  • operate and secure the website;

  • remember your choices;

  • retain certain job-application progress on your own device;

  • understand how visitors use our website; and

  • improve website functionality and performance.

This policy should be read together with the LMTS QA Consulting Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of data that websites may store through your browser.

They can be used to:

  • remember choices;

  • maintain sessions;

  • provide security functionality;

  • distinguish between website visits;

  • measure website usage; or

  • support other website functionality.

Cookies may expire when you close your browser or remain for a defined period.

3. What Is Browser Local Storage?

Browser local storage is a storage mechanism provided by modern web browsers.

Unlike a traditional server-side database, information stored in local storage ordinarily remains within the browser profile on your device unless website code later transmits that information to a server.

LMTS uses browser local storage for certain website functionality, including the ability to preserve supported portions of an unfinished job application.

4. Job Application Draft Storage

The LMTS job-application system may save your application progress locally in your browser so that you can leave the application and return later.

When this feature is used:

  • supported draft application information is stored in your browser's local storage;

  • the draft remains associated with that browser and device;

  • saving the draft does not, by itself, submit the application;

  • the locally saved draft is not sent to LMTS's recruitment systems merely because it was saved locally; and

  • LMTS receives the application information when you actively submit the application.

This allows applicants to continue an incomplete application without LMTS unnecessarily collecting unfinished application information.

5. What Happens When You Submit an Application?

When you select the appropriate application submission function, the information included in your completed application is transmitted to LMTS.

From that point, the application information is processed by LMTS in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

The submitted information is no longer merely a local browser draft.

6. Losing or Removing a Saved Application Draft

Local browser data is controlled partly through your browser and device.

A saved application draft may be lost if you:

  • clear browser data;

  • clear local storage;

  • reset the browser;

  • delete the browser profile;

  • use a browser-cleaning application;

  • switch to another browser;

  • switch to another device;

  • use private or incognito browsing; or

  • otherwise remove locally stored website data.

LMTS cannot guarantee recovery of a draft that existed only in your local browser storage.

Clearing local storage may therefore permanently delete an unsent job application draft.

7. Shared or Public Devices

Because locally saved application information may remain available within the browser, applicants should use caution when completing applications on:

  • shared computers;

  • workplace computers;

  • internet cafés;

  • public computers; or

  • devices used by multiple people.

If you use a shared device, consider clearing the locally stored application draft after completing or abandoning your application.

8. Categories of Cookies and Storage Technologies

LMTS may use the following categories.

8.1 Strictly Necessary Technologies

These technologies enable essential website functionality and may be required for:

  • website operation;

  • security;

  • session management;

  • protection against abuse;

  • form functionality;

  • CMS authentication where applicable;

  • remembering privacy choices;

  • maintaining consent preferences; and

  • other technically necessary functions.

Because they are required to provide or secure the website, strictly necessary technologies may operate regardless of optional cookie preferences where permitted by law.

8.2 Job Application Storage

Browser local storage may be used to:

  • remember application fields;

  • retain application progress;

  • enable applicants to leave and return later; and

  • reduce the risk of losing an incomplete application through ordinary navigation.

This information remains on the applicant's browser until it is:

  • overwritten;

  • removed by the application;

  • removed according to application logic;

  • cleared by the browser or device; or

  • otherwise deleted.

Application submission is a separate action from local draft storage.

8.3 Functional and Preference Technologies

These may be used to remember preferences such as:

  • cookie settings;

  • interface choices;

  • display preferences;

  • website selections; or

  • other user-selected functionality.

8.4 Analytics and Performance Technologies

LMTS may use analytics or related technologies to understand how visitors use the website.

These technologies may help us understand matters such as:

  • number of website visits;

  • commonly visited pages;

  • general traffic patterns;

  • referring sources;

  • browser and device types;

  • website errors;

  • interactions with pages; and

  • website performance.

We use such information to improve our website, content and services.

Where analytics technologies are optional, their activation should reflect the user's applicable cookie preferences.

8.5 Third-Party Technologies

Where the LMTS website incorporates third-party services, those services may use cookies or similar technologies.

Examples could include services providing:

  • website analytics;

  • hosting;

  • embedded video;

  • maps;

  • security;

  • communications;

  • social-media functionality; or

  • other interactive website features.

The actual third-party technologies used on the production website should be reflected in LMTS's cookie register.

LMTS will not describe a third-party cookie as being in use unless the relevant technology is actually deployed.

9. Cookie Consent

Where optional cookies or tracking technologies require user choice or consent, LMTS should provide a cookie-management mechanism.

Where implemented, the mechanism should allow visitors to:

  • accept optional cookies;

  • reject optional cookies; and

  • manage individual categories of optional cookies.

Rejecting optional cookies should not prevent strictly necessary website functionality from operating.

10. Cookie Consent Is Separate from Marketing Consent

Accepting cookies does not mean that you have consented to receive LMTS newsletters, emails or electronic marketing.

Similarly:

  • submitting an enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to a newsletter;

  • starting a job application does not subscribe you to marketing;

  • submitting a job application does not constitute general marketing consent; and

  • accepting analytics cookies does not amount to newsletter consent.

Marketing and newsletter consent is managed separately.

11. Remembering Your Cookie Choice

The website may store your cookie preference so that you are not asked to make the same selection every time you visit.

This preference may itself be stored using a necessary cookie or browser storage.

If you delete this information, the website may ask you to select your cookie preferences again.

12. Rejecting Optional Cookies

Where the website provides optional analytics, advertising or similar technologies, you may reject those technologies through the available cookie preference mechanism.

Necessary website technologies may continue operating because the website may not function or remain secure without them.

13. Managing Cookies Through Your Browser

Modern browsers generally allow you to:

  • view cookies;

  • remove individual cookies;

  • clear all cookies;

  • block third-party cookies;

  • block cookies for particular websites;

  • delete local storage; or

  • configure website storage permissions.

The exact controls depend on the browser you use.

14. Important Effect of Clearing Website Data

Clearing LMTS website local storage may remove an unfinished job application saved in your browser.

You should submit your application or retain any important information elsewhere before clearing website storage if you intend to continue the application.

15. Analytics Information

Where LMTS uses analytics, information collected may include technical information such as:

  • approximate geographic region;

  • IP-derived information;

  • device type;

  • browser;

  • operating system;

  • pages visited;

  • time spent on pages;

  • referral information;

  • website events; and

  • general interaction information.

LMTS uses this information to understand website performance and improve the visitor experience.

We do not use analytics merely to identify applicants by the contents of unsent local application drafts.

16. Local Storage and Unsubmitted Applications

LMTS specifically distinguishes between:

Website analytics information

Technical information relating to website usage.

Locally saved job-application information

Information intentionally stored on your device to enable you to continue an unfinished application.

Submitted job-application information

Information deliberately transmitted to LMTS when you submit the application.

This separation is intended to minimise unnecessary collection of incomplete recruitment information.

17. Personal Information

Information generated through cookies or similar technologies may constitute personal information under POPIA where it identifies or can reasonably be associated with an identifiable person.

Where this occurs, LMTS processes that information in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

18. Security

LMTS takes reasonable steps to protect information processed through website technologies.

However, information stored locally on your device is also affected by the security of:

  • your device;

  • browser;

  • operating-system account;

  • browser profile; and

  • physical access to the device.

You are responsible for taking reasonable precautions when using a shared or unsecured device.

19. Cookie and Storage Duration

Different technologies may remain active for different periods.

Some cookies may:

  • expire at the end of a browsing session; or

  • remain for a defined period.

Local job-application drafts may remain in the browser until:

  • the application removes them;

  • an expiry mechanism removes them;

  • you clear them;

  • your browser clears them; or

  • the relevant website storage is otherwise deleted.

LMTS should configure retention periods that are reasonably appropriate for the purpose of each technology.

20. Third-Party Processing

Where third-party service providers process information obtained through cookies or similar technologies on behalf of LMTS, LMTS will seek to ensure that appropriate privacy and security arrangements apply.

Some providers may process information outside South Africa.

Where personal information is transferred internationally, LMTS will seek to comply with applicable requirements governing cross-border transfers.

21. Cookie Register

Because website technologies may change as the CMS and web application evolve, LMTS should maintain an up-to-date cookie and browser-storage register.

The register should identify the technologies actually deployed on the production website.

It should contain information such as:

InformationDescriptionNameCookie, local-storage key or technology nameProviderLMTS or third-party providerTypeCookie, local storage or other technologyPurposeWhy it is usedCategoryNecessary, Functional, Analytics or other applicable categoryDurationSession or applicable storage periodPartyFirst party or third partyInformationGeneral information processedConsent StatusWhether optional consent applies

The register should be updated whenever material website technologies change.

22. Changes to This Policy

LMTS may update this policy where:

  • website functionality changes;

  • recruitment functionality changes;

  • application-draft functionality changes;

  • analytics technologies change;

  • third-party integrations change;

  • new cookies are introduced;

  • cookies are removed; or

  • applicable legal or regulatory requirements change.

The latest version will be published on the LMTS website.
